For knowing that her best role is herself.

“Oh, I love this guy,” Anna Kendrick says, as a bichon frise greets her hand with its tongue. “Hi, pal! You’re a good guy!” The 28-year-old actress is sitting on a bench in a Hollywood Hills dog park, where a half-dozen or so of California’s chicest hounds are frolicking in a grassy meadow, enjoying a lazy morning on the last day before spring. Off to Kendrick’s right, a galumphing golden retriever chases down a slobbery tennis ball. “I want to steal that fucking dog,” she says.

The pooch-loving Kendrick doesn’t own a dog right now; having six movies coming out over the next 18 months puts a bit of a crimp in pet ownership. (The closest she’s come recently was a Jack Russell terrier that belonged to an ex, but she lost him in the breakup, which seems to bum her out more than the breakup itself.) Occasionally she’ll get lucky and dog-sit for friends, but today she’s here to get her fix vicariously: “Just creeping,” she says. Before long, a yappy-looking mutt scampers over to the bench, lifts his leg, and, before Kendrick can stop him, marks his territory all over her Kate Spade purse. “No!” she says, shooing him away. “Cheeky!” It’s hard to imagine Angelina Jolie or Gwyneth Paltrow ever “just creeping,” much less letting their bags be despoiled by an overfriendly Chihuahua. But Kendrick–who broke out in 2008’s Twilight, did an Oscar-nominated turn opposite George Clooney in Up in the Air, and rose to genuine stardom with 2012’s Pitch Perfect–is part of a new breed of actresses who somehow manage to seem eminently approachable while also remaining heroes to their legions of fans. (See also: Jennifer Lawrence, Lena Dunham, and, to some extent, Emma Stone.) Kendrick’s reach is particularly vast: She counts 1.3 million followers on Instagram and 2.2 million on Twitter, all of whom tune in to hear her say whatever’s on her mind, the more inappropriate the better. Her hit single, “Cups (When I’m Gone),” from the Pitch Perfect soundtrack, shot to No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 thanks to 120 million viral-video watchers. An increasing number of brands want to tap into her four-quadrant appeal to help push their products; and–oh, right–she’ll appear in three films this year, including Disney’s take on the Stephen Sondheim musical Into the Woods, in which she stars as Cinderella alongside Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep.

And yet, Kendrick says, “Not only is strategy not my strong suit, it doesn’t even enter into my thought process.” She doesn’t have a business manager or even an assistant; recently, when she went to buy a new, used Prius–which she only assented to after her 2002 Prius died on her–she brought along her BFF Aubrey Plaza, of NBC’s Parks and Recreation and the forthcoming zombie rom-com Life After Beth, which Kendrick has a cameo in.

“I’m a terrible negotiator,” Kendrick says. “The guy was doing all the cliché car-salesman things, playing hardball and going to talk to his manager, and all I could say was, ‘Why are you being so mean? Stop it!’ ” Fortunately, Plaza–who’s known for her biting sarcasm and droll demeanor (says Kendrick: “I envy her. I think people would be thrilled to pieces if she threw a drink in their face”)–came prepared to live up to her rep. Their good cop/bad cop routine worked, and after a bit of back-and-forth, Kendrick drove off the lot at Toyota of Glendale with a preowned Prius for exactly what she wanted to pay. “We did it,” she says with a grin.

Anna Kendrick Strips Down For GQ, Goes Blonde And Topless

What a sexy blonde! Anna Kendrick, star of the upcoming comedy Drinking Buddies, strips down for a hot photo shoot in the September 2013 issue of GQ. While promoting the new flick — also starring New Girl’s Jake Johnson, Olivia Wilde and Ron Livingston — the stunning actress shares what not to do on a first date.

“Two subjects to never bring up on a first date are anything to do with the actual reality of your family, and, you know, liver cancer and how we’ve probably all got it,” the 28-year-old jokes. Also, who pays at the end of the night should be a no-brainer. “Paying on a first date is a tricky thing because even though it’s meaningless, if a guy doesn’t, or doesn’t offer, it suggests poor judgment more than anything else,” she says. Kendrick recently ended her four-year relationship with Shaun of the Dead director, Edgar Wright in March.

In addition, the Pitch Perfect star admits some of her most uncomfortable run-ins with fans — including encounters involving, er, shopping for underwear. “There’s something deeply embarrassing about being approached when you’re holding knickers,” she reveals. “And it’s happened TWICE!”

One thing Kendrick definitely isn’t shy about? Exposing some skin! In the photo shoot, the “When I’m Gone” singer also shows off her long legs and goes topless while just wearing black swim shorts. {usmagazine.com}

Recap: Anna Judges on ‘So You Think You Can Dance’

Anna was the guest judge on last nights episode of So You Think You Can Dance. The dancers were narrowed down from 14 and Anna gave witty yet well-rounded critiques on each of the performances. Remember Anna used to be into dancing herself growing up. Here’s a recap of her highlights in a compilation video, as well as some press articles:

‘So You Think You Can Dance': Anna Kendrick Tells Two Dancers They ‘Should Make A Baby’

The guest judge rotation continued on “So You Think You Can Dance,” bringing Anna Kendrick to the panel this week. She quickly proved a memorable guest, with choice quotes throughout the night. But her best critique came after a salsa routine by Malece Miller and Alan Bersten.

After admitting she didn’t now much about the technical side of the routine, Kendrick still had a pretty strong reaction to the performance. “That made me want to take lessons and have an affair on a tropical island,” she said, adding after a beat, “Or maybe just the second thing.”

“You’re both such solid dancers, such deliberate dancers and, um, I feel like you guys should make a baby,” Kendrick told the stunned pair.

Entertainment Weekly’s Annie Barrett was loving Kendrick as a guest judge, claiming that Kendrick was saying everything that she was thinking. A writer for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer agreed, saying that Kendrick “killed it” at the judge’s table.

Kendrick Tweeted that she was “so excited” to join the judges, and seemed perhaps a little too eager to get out there and dance herself. Fans will get to see her footwork in the new musical, “The Last Five Years,” though it doesn’t have a release date yet. {huffingtonpost.com}

Anna Kendrick Sings About Destiny’s Child, Compares Herself to Michelle Williams

Anna Kendrick proved she’s a talented singer in 2012’s musical comedy Pitch Perfect, and now she’s showing off her lyrical abilities in the July 26 episode of IFC’s Comedy Bang! Bang! In a sneak preview from the show, the Oscar-nominated star, 27, performs a completely improvised song about Destiny’s Child with the show’s band leader, Reggie Watts.

“I feel like if I were in Destiny’s Child, I’d be Michelle,” she sings of Williams, who joined the group in 2000. “She caught a lot of air at the Super Bowl. She looked like she didn’t expect it.” (The “Bootylicious” singers joined forces during Beyonce Knowles’ Super Bowl XLVII Halftime Show on Feb. 3, 2013.)

With Watts manning the turntables, Kendrick continues to sing about the musical trio. “I feel like if I were in Destiny’s Child, I’d be Michelle. Most people wouldn’t call her their favorite,” she sings. “But it’s pretty cool how they always give her the bridge.”

“I definitely wouldn’t call her my favorite,” Watts laughs.

Though Destiny’s Child has not officially disbanded, the group hasn’t released a full-length album since 2004’s Destiny Fulfilled. Knowles, 31, is currently headlining the Mrs. Carter Show World Tour, while Kelly Rowland, 32, is busy promoting her recently released album, Talk a Good Game. The new judge is also taping episodes for the third season of The X Factor, airing this fall on FOX. Williams, 32, will star in her own reality show, My Sister’s Keeper. Her latest solo single, “If We Had Your Eyes,” was released on June 24.

Kendrick’s episode of Comedy Bang! Bang! airs Friday, July 26, at 10 p.m. EST on IFC.

‘Cups’ Reaches Billboard’s 100 Top 10!

This week, ‘Cups’, Anna’s hit song from Pitch Perfect hit the Billboard 100’s top ten songs played on the radio! This is a huge feat considering Anna is solely an actress, and songs from movie soundtracks don’t generally place nearly this high on the list. Add popstar to Anna’s resume – go girl! (And lets get Cups to number one!)

How Anna Kendrick’s Soundtrack Sleeper ‘Cups’ Got to the Top of the Charts

As reported yesterday, Anna Kendrick reaches the Billboard Hot 100’s top 10 at last with “Cups (Pitch Perfect’s When I’m Gone),” which rises 13-10 in its 28th week on the chart.

Since it’s been almost a year since her song was released via the box office hit “Pitch Perfect,” and since the track is still finding new audiences thanks to its continued inroads at radio, let’s look back at the pop culture and chart odyssey that “Cups” has taken on its way to reaching the Hot 100’s top tier this week.

Aug. 9, 1985
Kendrick is born in Portland, Maine. (Why not start at the beginning?)

1995 (-ish)
Kendrick catches a bus from Portland to New York to attend auditions, ultimately with her sights set on performing on Broadway. By 1998, at 12, she scores her first acting role, as Dinah, in the Broadway musical “High Society.” Her performance nets her a Tony Award nomination, making her the third-youngest Tony Award nominee ever.

(And now we fast-forward …)

Sept. 28, 2012
“Pitch Perfect” premieres in U.S. theaters. It ranks at No. 3 in its first weekend, grossing $14.8 million. It trails “Taken 2″ and “Hotel Transylvania” (neither of which, obviously, boasts a song keeping them in public consciousness long after like “Cups” has done for “Pitch Perfect,” reinforcing the staying power that a soundtrack hit can engender for a film).

October 4
Kendrick appears on CBS’ “Late Show With David Letterman” and shows off her dexterity at performing “Cups” as she does in “Pitch Perfect”…

Actually, let’s go way back to 1937 for a moment: In 2009, British act Lulu and the Lampshades unveiled its version (and unique cup-assisted performance style) of “When I’m Gone” as a reworking of the 1937 Appalachian folk song “Miss Me When I’m Gone” by J. E. Mainer’s Mountaineers. Anna Burden’s performance subsequently garnered attention on YouTube (3.7 million views to date), which led to front page placement on Reddit. Myriad other online covers followed.

“‘Cause I’m a huge loser, I thought the best way to spend an entire afternoon would be watching (Burden’s) video 50 times and teaching myself how to do it,” Kendrick told Letterman. When the film’s creative powers “found out I could, they wanted me to (perform) it in the movie.”

October 13
The “Pitch Perfect” soundtrack debuts on the Billboard 200 at No. 43 with 9,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

January 12, 2013
In its 1-minute-16-second-long soundtrack version, “Cups” enters the Hot 100 at No. 93. At the time, 69% of its chart points are due to digital sales, 31% to streaming and 0% to radio.

February 2
With the film having achieved continued box office success, the “Pitch Perfect” soundtrack spends its first of three weeks at its No. 3 Billboard 200 peak. It’s sold 772,000 to date (and jumps 20-13 on the current chart).

April 12
With the song in a new form (see next item), the official “Cups” video premieres. To date, it’s up to 29 million YouTube views.

April 20
“Cups” debuts on the Mainstream Top 40 radio airplay chart at No. 40 after Republic Records released a new, longer edit featuring much more instrumentation than on the almost all-a capella (a-“cup”-ella?) soundtrack version. “Anyone that has a preteen knows (‘Cups’),” Republic senior VP/radio and video promotion David Nathan beams to Billboard as the label begins promoting the song to radio. “‘Pitch Perfect’ is a cultural phenomenon and we’re very happy to be a part of it.”

JR Ammons, program director of Mainstream Top 40 reporter WZPL Indianapolis, says that despite initial apathy, he believes in the track’s potential as a radio hit. “I saw the movie when it came out and, honestly, the song didn’t stick out to me as something that I would be playing months later.

“I wouldn’t have thought about that song again after the movie… until my daughter learned the cup thing off YouTube and was singing it over and over and over in the house. Then, I come to work and see the single sales climb week after week in Indianapolis with zero radio airplay…

“Once you get away from the source of the song, it being from a movie about college freshmen, there’s nothing really that youthful-exclusive about it,” Ammon adds.

“No matter how I try to fight it, the hook is in my head every time it comes on our station.”

June 1
With radio playing the new edit, “Cups” reaches the Hot 100’s top 40 (rising 44-36) in its 21st week. (In addition to its digital single release, the new version appears on the EP Pitch Perfect: More From Pitch Perfect, which charges 139-119 on the Billboard 200 this week.)

June 22
“Pitch Perfect” makes its premium cable premiere on HBO. With the film having grossed $113 million worldwide to date, according to Box Office Mojo, the TV exposure can only help build the familiarity of “Cups,” especially among those who may not have seen the film in theaters.

July 8
The always Twitter-witty Kendrick marvels at the song’s new levels of airplay: “Holy s*** it’s happening. I’m hearing my song on the radio. Every music biopic ever has taught me this will lead to drugs and madness… #sweet”

This week
Climbing 13-10 in its 28th week, “Cups” completes the fourth-longest ascent to the top 10 for a woman in the Hot 100’s nearly 55-year history, bested only by Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats,” the steadiest riser among all acts (38 weeks; 2007), and Faith Hill’s “This Kiss” (30; 1998) and “The Way You Love Me” (29; 2000).

While Underwood and Hill reached the top 10 by seeing their songs start at country before scoring pop and adult radio airplay, the pure-pop “Cups” has made its journey via measured increasing sales and pop and adult radio’s interest following its instrument-infused edit.

“Cups” also claims its first top 10 placement on an airplay chart, as it bumps 11-9 on Adult Top 40. On Mainstream Top 40, it jumps 18-15. In its second week on Adult Contemporary, it lifts 25-22. In contrast to its debut week on the Hot 100 (see Jan. 12, above), radio is now a major driver of its success: 27% of its chart points stem from airplay, with 47% from sales and 26% from streaming.

In all, and given that its growth at radio is still continuing solidly, it appears that, to paraphrase the song, it’ll be a long time before “Cups” is gone.

Anna Kendrick Reveals Taco Bell Obsession on ‘Conan’

Anna Kendrick has confessed — she loves Taco Bell.

The 27-year-old actress, who stars in the upcoming End of Watch and Pitch Perfect, stopped by Conan for a chat and when asked about her tweets about Taco Bell, confessed everything.

“I love Taco Bell,” Anna shared, explaining, “It’s a secret…It’s a dirty thing that I love Taco Bell so much. I can not, can not eat Taco Bell before Midnight. It’s like a reverse Gremlins thing.”

She continued, “It’s just so filthy that I can’t do it. It has to be under cover of darkness in my car. I drive out of my way for the one with the drive-thru so I don’t have to go inside and I’ll just eat it in my car.”

“This is my cry for help,” Anna joked with the host. {justjaredjr.com}
