Anna Kendrick: Hard at Work in NYC

Kicking off another day on the job, Anna Kendrick showed up on the set of “The Last 5 Years” in Manhattan this morning (June 18).

The “Up in the Air” babe donned a denim jacket with an orange zig-zagged top and dark trousers as she milled around the sidewalk in between takes.

Also starring Jeremy Jordan, “The Last Five Years” is based on a musical of the same name in which a struggling actress and her novelist lover each illustrate the struggle and deconstruction of their love affair.

Yesterday Anna tweeted, “Cathy and Jamie 4ever #LastFiveYears #DayOne,” and Jeremy added, “I almost killed us both in this car…”

Anna Kendrick & Jeremy Jordan: 'Last Five Years' Set Photos!

Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan go retro in these first photos from the set of their upcoming movie musical The Last Five Years on Monday (June 17) in Brooklyn, New York.

Earlier in the day, the 28-year-old actor was spotted chatted on his cell phone while on set near the water.

In the recent off-Broadway staging of the musical, the song “I Can Do Better Than That,” sung by Anna‘s character Cathy, takes place in a car, so we definitely think this is the first scene they are shooting!

“Cathy and Jamie 4ever #LastFiveYears #DayOne,” Anna tweeted, and Jeremy later said “I almost killed us both in this car…”

“Day one of the last five years!” Jeremy added on his account.

The first shot from the set of the highly anticipated feature film adaptation of Jason Robert Brown’s cult hit musical THE LAST FIVE YEARS directed by Richard LaGravenese and starring Jeremy Jordan and Anna Kendrick has just been released.

THE LAST FIVE YEARS traces the beginning and end of the relationship between writer Jamie (Jordan) and actress Kathy (Kendrick) from alternating perspectives in a unique and arresting manner, highlighted by Brown’s lyrical, pop-flecked score.

Also, LAST FIVE YEARS stars Jordan and Kendrick have taken to Twitter, along with the musical’s Tony Award-winning composer/lyricist Jason Robert Brown, to comment on today’s commencement of filming.

Jordan announced on Twitter: “Day one of the last five years!”

Kendrick posted the photo on her Instagram account (here), captioning it: “Cathy and Jamie 4ever #LastFiveYears #DayOne

Brown amusingly wrote on Twitter: “I just watched @JeremyMJordan drive 20 feet on a bicycle four times. My work is done here.”

Anna is set to officially star as Cathy Hyatt in the upcoming musical “The Last Five Years”, and it was just announced that Jeremy Jordan of “Smash” will play her doomed-love int

Smash Star Jeremy Jordan Tapped to Star Opposite Anna Kendrick in The Last Five Years Film

Exclusive! Smash Star Jeremy Jordan Tapped to Star Opposite Anna Kendrick in The Last Five Years Film
The film version of ‘The Last Five Years’ has found its Jamie!

Is Jeremy Jordan’s career “moving too fast”? Not for us! Broadway.com has learned that the Newsies and Smash star is the frontrunner to play Jamie opposite Anna Kendrick’s Cathy in the upcoming film version of Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years.

The indie movie, directed by Richard LaGravanese, is an adaptation of the 2002 two-character musical that centers around the tumultuous relationship between Jamie, a writer, and Cathy, an aspiring actress, over the course of five years. The musical debuted in 2002 with Norbert Leo Butz and Sherie Rene Scott as stars. Despite a short run, The Last Five Years gained in popularity thanks to an acclaimed original cast recording and has become a staple in regional theaters and colleges. Brown is directing a new off-Broadway staging that will begin performances on March 7, starring Betsy Wolfe and Adam Kantor.

Jordan was nominated for a Tony Award for playing Jack Kelly in Newsies, a role that also earned him two 2012 Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards. He was also seen on Broadway in Rock of Ages, West Side Story and as legendary outlaw Clyde Barrow in Bonnie and Clyde. He made his feature film debut as Dolly Parton’s grandson in Joyful Noise and can currently be seen playing songwriter Jimmy Collins in the NBC musical drama Smash.

The Last Five Years is expected to start filming later this year.

Anna Kendrick & Jeremy Jordan: ‘Last 5 Years’ Movie Lovers!

Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan will officially be starring opposite each other in the film adaptation of the beloved musical, The Last 5 Years!

The 28-year-old Tony-nominated actor, who is currently starring on Smash, will play “Jamie, a rising novelist whose relationship with struggling actress Cathy (Kendrick) is explored through an unusual narrative device: His story unfolds in chronological order as the pair first meet, while hers unfolds in reverse starting at the end of their marriage,” according to Deadline.

“Its official!! I will be playing Jamie in The Last five Years film!! @AnnaKendrick47 Literally a dream come true :)” Jeremy tweeted to confirm the news.

In case you want to see a live production of the musical, head on over to the Second Stage Theatre in New York City, where the first Off-Broadway production in many years will begin on March 7.

Anna Kendrick to Star in Film Adaptation of Off-Broadway Musical THE LAST FIVE YEARS

In a recent interview with Collider.com, ‘Beautiful Creatures’ director Richard LaGravenese revealed that he is currently working on an indie film adaptation of the off-Broadway musical THE LAST FIVE YEARS. The show appeared off-Broadway in 2002 and will be revived at New York’s Second Stage Theatre this April.

The love story is all-sung and features just two characters. “[It’s] about a young man and young woman in their 20’s who meet, fall in love, get married and break up, all in the span of five years,” explains the director. “All of her songs start at the end of their relationship and go to the beginning, and all of his songs start at the beginning and go to the end…It goes back and forth like that.”

Written by Jason Robert Brown, The Last Five Years explores a five-year relationship between Jamie Wellerstein, a rising novelist, and Cathy Hyatt, a struggling actress. The show uses a form of storytelling in which Cathy’s story is told in reverse chronological order (beginning the show at the end of the marriage), and Jamie’s is told in chronological order (starting just after the couple have first met). The characters do not directly interact except for a wedding song in the middle as their timelines intersect.

Anna will star in a new movie called “The Last Five Years”! Here’s what we know about it so far:

  • Based on Robert Jason Brown’s play that fixes on the ups and downs of a relationship
  • It will be adapted and directed by Richard LaGravenese (P.S. I Love You)
  • Anna will play Cathy, a struggling young actress, and an yet-to-be cast actor as her novelist husband Jamie.
  • The film chronicles the duo’s relationship – the meet, the break-up, the make-up, the nuptials… all through comedic songs sung by the actors.
  • The film will be a musical, and Cathy and Jamie do not directly interact except for a wedding song in the middle as their timelines intersect.

Exclusive : Anna Kendrick to star in musical The Last 5 Years

The film mightn’t have set the box office aflame like many predicted it would (based on those early word-of-mouth screenings that the distributor participated in; though “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” used the same playbook, and also tanked upon release) but Uni’s “Pitch Perfect” ostensibly proved Anna Kendrick – the “Twilight” castie who went on to snag an Oscar Nomination for her part as George Clooney’s young, impressionable but ultimately threatening competition in “Up in the Air” – could hold her own in a feature that’s music-heavy. As such, the versatile young thesp has snagged the lead role in another lyrical-friendly feature, “The Last Five Years” – this one, however, is an out-and-out musical.

The Richard LaGravenese (“P.S, I Love You”) adapted and directed “Last Five Years”, one of the many intriguing projects being stumped at next week’s AFM, is based on Robert Jason Brown’s acclaimed Chicago-born play of the same name, that fixes on the ups and downs of a relationship. The show, inspired by the playwright’s own personal life, used a form of storytelling in which the young woman’s story is told in reverse chronological order (beginning the show at the end of the marriage), and the male’s is told in chronological order (starting just after the couple have first met). The characters did not directly interact except for a wedding song in the middle as their timelines intersect. It was all quite genius.

Kendrick will star Kendrick as Cathy, a struggling young actress, and an yet-to-be cast actor as her novelist husband Jamie. The film chronicles the duo’s relationship – the meet, the break-up, the make-up, the nuptials… all through comedic songs sung by the actors.

Kendrick, next in “The Twilight Saga : Breaking Dawn Part 2″ (the ticket sales of which will likely make up for the poor performance of “Pitch Perfect” – which, I believe, will likely find more of an audience on DVD and Blu-ray), will sing such tunes as “Still Hurting”, “See I’m Smiling” and “I Can Do Better Than That” in the pic.

“Last Five Years”, housed with The Exchange (Denzel Washington/Mark Wahlberg starrer “Two Guns”), will be pimped in Santa Monica at the end of the month. {moviehole.net}
