The Early Show Candids

I’ve added two unseen candids of Anna toting luggage in New York from December 15th:

EDIT: These candids were taken on her way out from the Early Show December 15th. I’ve added some bigger snaps thanks to popsugar, who blogged:

Anna Kendrick had her hands full yesterday on her way out of The Early Show in NYC — check out her interview after the jump. She sat down just as she heard news of her Golden Globe nomination, though she was quick to say she’s not setting herself up for any Oscars expectations. She’s in the final stretch of promoting Up in the Air before it hits theaters on Christmas, and today’s itinerary included a stop at The View. The ladies were quick to congratulate Anna on being up for the Best Supporting Actress award, though she revealed she’s an old pro when it comes to being nominated — she was up for a Tony at age 12 after a stint on Broadway in a play called High Society.

Merry Xmas to those who celebrate it. Hopefully Anna is getting some much needed R&R in Maine with her family and friends before awards mania!

The California Chronicle:

To most of the country, Anna Kendrick’s celebrated performance in the film “Up in the Air” makes her seem like an overnight success.

But to people in Maine, who have been hearing about the Portland native’s talent and dramatic triumphs since she was in middle school, her success seems more gradual. . . .

Reviewers have lauded Kendrick’s performance and called her a scene stealer.

Kendrick, 24, began acting as a child in theater productions around Portland. At the age of 12 she played the kid sister in a revival of “High Society” on Broadway and was nominated for a Tony Award.

Before starting her senior year at Deering High School in Portland she starred in the indie film hit “Camp,” about a summer camp for musical theater junkies. Later she was in another indie- type hit, “Rocket Science.” She was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for her roles in both films.

Recently, Kendrick has been a supporting player in the “Twilight Saga” films, both “Twilight” and “New Moon.” She plays Jessica, friend to Bella, the main female character. She’s scheduled to reprise her role in the third film in the series, “Eclipse.”

What happens after that for Kendrick is hard to say. She’s so busy that she wasn’t able to be interviewed for this story. And her publicist said she probably wouldn’t be available until after the Oscars.

By that time, the whole country might know her story. {Maine native’s breakout film earns her kudos, nominations}

The Grand Rapid’s Press:

Imagine George Clooney giving you permission to make fun of him. That’s exactly what happened to Anna Kendrick while filming “Up in the Air,” the multiple-Golden Globe nominee that opened Wednesday in local theaters. To cultivate their on-screen chemistry — and alleviate any potential nervousness from the 24-year-old actress — Clooney asked Kendrick to unleash the same degree of mildly abusive condescension upon him when the cameras weren’t rolling.

“He gave me permission to give him a hard time and play around, and make me more comfortable on set,” Kendrick said during a recent telephone interview.

She adds glibly: “People tend to be uncomfortable around the most famous person on the planet.”
. . .

“I do something in the [Twilight] films that most characters aren’t allowed to do,” she said. “I try to be silly and break the mood, provide a little relief. By no means do I think my role is really serious, but my character takes herself seriously. To her, high-school drama is the end of the world.”

“I don’t think of myself as someone who’s trying to make people laugh,” she said. “I’m not one of those ‘funny girls.’” {‘Up in the Air’ star Anna Kendrick was discovered as debate champion in ‘Rocket Science’}

Up in the Air Nationally Released, Twitter, Press, Candids, Autographs

As we announced, Up in the Air moved up from it’s original wide release on Christmas day, to today, December 23rd! Anna has a little message for all you guys who have no excuses not to see the movie now, about 3 hours ago from web :

Up in the Air is playing nationwide today – get your cute butts into a local theater!

:-D I’ve also recently just seen Up in the Air and New Moon back-to-back. I don’t know if there’s anything I can say about Up in the Air that hasn’t been said before, but my favorite scene of Anna’s was hands down the drunk 80′s karaoke, which must have been excruciatingly hard for Anna to repress her real-life amazing singing voice! I’m not the biggest Twilight fan but the parts I liked the best were definitely human-related, Anna adds much needed comic-relief and really brings you back to the hierarchy of high school.

Press

Lincoln Journal Star:

Anna Kendrick has a harrowing couple of months ahead of her. Asked what is the most difficult thing about her career, the 24-year-old actress had an offbeat confession: “Red carpets and stuff like that make me nervous,” she said. “I feel I’m very awkward on red carpets. I’m terrified out of my wits.”

“So many people ask (co-star) Vera (Farmiga) what it was like to kiss George Clooney and say they’re jealous of her,” Kendrick said. “You should be jealous of me. I got to yell at George Clooney. It was the best day of my life.” {‘Up in the Air’ actress Kendrick set for ‘scary red carpets’}

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

. . . The actress started to do research online about career transition counseling — business-speak for firing people.

“I realized pretty early that I think for Natalie, this isn’t about the fact that she fires people for a living … but I think it’s just about [how] she moved to this city for a guy, and she just found a job where she thought she could be ambitious and she could get ahead.

“And when she looked at the way they did business, of course it seemed like an obvious solution to her to start doing it over the Internet. I think she starts out seeing other people as weaker than she is, and she sees them as statistics, and she thinks that whatever is most efficient is the obvious path.”

Watching the movie with a packed audience in Toronto made Kendrick feel defensive about her character.

“Every time the audience would laugh at something that was a joke at Natalie’s expense, I would want to turn around and start yelling. I feel so protective of her even though I know she’s a little brat sometimes. I can’t tell you how that twisted my spine.”

But, she conceded, “Believe me, I was thrilled that they laughed.” {Kendrick enjoyed her heady role}

Anna is promoting Up in the Air from England for tomorrow’s wide release in the state’s. Here are a couple of new clips, converted to our Youtube for your convenience. She’s done a video chat with both Good Day Philadelphia and Good Day Los Angeles. There is a little bit of a delay in her answers since she is chatting overseas! Other media for today include Jay Leno’s Green Car Challenge Post-race, and a candid video of Anna signing at the Letterman appearance:

Anna on GMTV, in Europe

Anna appeared on Britsh television GMTV on ITV1 this morning promoting Up in the Air. It is not clear if this show is pre-recorded, but if live, this would mean that Anna is currently once again in Europe promoting Up in the Air. Up in the Air comes out in the UK January 15th, with earlier releases in Australia (January 7) and Spain (January 8), so maybe we’ll see in other parts of the globe too :D !

There’s also a short new article Anna did in the UK on Contact Music:

She tells British morning show GMTV, “I’m really superstitious. It’s the one thing I’m really superstitious about. I feel the second you start to celebrate, something’s going to go horribly wrong – so I didn’t tell anyone for weeks. I sat on it for weeks.
“I kept waiting for them (movie bosses) to realise they’d made a mistake but then eventually I called my mum and she burst my eardrums.” {KENDRICK’S SHOCK AT UP IN THE AIR ROLE}

I’ve added a massive amount of photos to the gallery thanks to HH, many are better quality replacements than previous photo’s we had, and a couple are new. Cezy from yesterday’s fan story also gave us permission to use her candid’s from outside the ‘It’s on with Alexa Chung’ studios. Just a note that there might be a few repeats in the galleries, because we collect both high quality and medium quality photos from each event. The Higher Qualities can be found at the beginning of each album:

Satellite Award Results, USA Today Interview

The Satellite Awards announced their winners last night, and Actress In A Supporting Role went once again to Mo’nique for Precious. You can view the full list of winners at the Press Academy. Congrats to Anna for her nomination, and lets hope for some wins with the upcoming People’s Choice, Critic’s Choice, and Golden Globes!

She’s also done a fun new interview on travelling with USA Today.

Q: What’s the sexiest place you’ve ever visited?

A: I thought Omaha, Neb., was pretty sexy. I swear to God. Conor Oberst (of Mystic Valley Band fame) came out of there, and where we were staying was near all these record shops and used T-shirt shops. They all had this kind of rock ‘n’ roll vibe. It was like every person walking down the street was going to be the next big thing. I’ve got a real thing for kind of rebellious, music-looking guys.

Q: What’s the first thing you do when you walk into a hotel room after checking in?

A: Check the bed. The most important thing in a hotel room to me is the bed and the shower. As long as you’ve got good pressure and a good bed, it doesn’t really matter what else they’ve got. I’ve been in hotel rooms where there’s, like, a chandelier in the shower. It really doesn’t matter if the water pressure is not good. I’ll get in the bed almost immediately and check it out to see if I’m going to have a good night’s sleep.

Q: What’s the most surprising/unexpected place you’re ever visited?

A: Goshen, Ind. I shot a really, really, really small independent film there. There was a pretty strong Amish community, to the point where the Walmart had stables for horses. That was definitely interesting navigating roads with horses and buggies. There was one bar that we could go to at the end of the night. It was a really small community and it felt like that movie State and Main, where we completely took over the town. By the end, everybody knew who we were because we were one of the people working on the movie. Everybody else knew each other. It was like, “If you’re an outsider you must be one of those movie people.” I did see a little Amish boy playing with a Game Boy, but I didn’t tattle on him. {Traveling with the Stars: Anna Kendrick}

Totally stoked for the Baltimore mention, as Maryland is my homestate :D
